New Sainsbury's retail study

Sainsburys at Ashton Gate started, as an issue,  when I was young, and is still going.

Well, surprise, surprise, in what could be a nasty shock for footie fans, it seems that the latest set of retail consultants are recommending against the store. This could be significant.....

The info is all on the councils planning site but the key para 4.28 could be

'However, on the basis of the retail policy matters covered by this advice, it is our view
that the negative impacts of the proposal outweigh any positive benefits which may
accrue. In reaching this view we have given particular weight to the financial impact
of the proposal and its adverse effect upon the vitality and viability of both defined
centres in Bedminster.'

Fascinating!

  1. And what with their traffic projections being exposed as "highly misleading" too, they might as well forget the whole thing now.

Anyway, I hope you had a lovely rest Charlie. Good to see you back on the blog again.

  2. Taken from a report which cost £2500 to commission, for that kind of money it must have been written on the back of a fag packet by the office junior.

The short term thinking and complete detachment of a vocal minority to the detriment of Bristol as a whole is breathtaking in it's audacity.

Bristol needs a new stadium , get the stadium built.

  3. "The short term thinking and complete detachment of a vocal minority to the detriment of Bristol as a whole is breathtaking in it's audacity." There's always this kind of screaming it's-all-so-unfair nonsense from BCFC supporters who think that they should get their way over everything. You've already been given £5million in land by BCC and had s106 waived (good for another few million). Now you curse people who don't want the obscene amount of traffic that this supermarket will bring because they should have football's interest at heart.

Bristol might need a new stadium, but it doesn't mean that it should accept this shoddy megamarket to get it.
